Work Experience

Here at Trigger, we know how valuable that bit of publishing work experience can be. It can really cement your career path or change it completely, and (most importantly of all) it can make all the difference for you landing that dream job. It provides you with the skillset needed to work in publishing, and gives you an understanding of the process that a book goes through.

So, why do work experience at Trigger?

Trigger is a small, independent mental health publisher based in the East Midlands. The fact that we’re indie means that we oversee the whole process (bar printing) in our office, and you’ll get to do so as well. Rather than being confined to one team, you’ll move between editorial and marketing, and get an idea of PR, sales and design work too, which gives you that extra bit of knowledge about what it takes to publish a book.

Not only that, but Trigger was launched as the publishing branch of The Shaw Mind Foundation, a global charity devoted to breaking the stigma around mental health. This means that you’ll be helping us to further our goal of raising awareness of mental health problems and decreasing suicide rates. What a bonus!

What you can expect:

A wide range of important tasks across multiple departments – you won’t be making tea (although you can if you want to – we’re tea fiends in the office!). You’ll be actively contributing to the publishing process. These tasks might include:

To be treated as one of the team. You’ll be invited to meetings and working on shared projects accordingly.

A meaningful week in which you’ll gain a wider understanding of the publishing process at a traditional publishing house.
